Yes a little boy brought in the latest issue of Sports Illustrated which happened to be a SwimSuit Issue. I heard about it, but don't know where in the States it happened. Apparently, some of the pictures bordered on soft porn, so the school suspended him from school.
Do you think they over-reacted?
I do. All 11-13 boys look at these magazines. Also it was Sports Illustrated, not a Playboy. It is available to them, it is not illegal and sale to only 18 years old. Whether the women are objectified is another issue, the issue here should the boy have been punished in this manner.
No! It just shames the boy and makes him feel like he has a problem. The problem is with the school. They could have taken the magazine & warned him that it was inappropriate. But instead they shame him & make him feel guilty for looking at a sexual image of a woman. And it is in SI, a magazine readily available & bought by millions, but not by me.
Schools mess kids up and creating a scandal out of nothing will scar this kid forever. He will always remember this incident. The whole community knows and everywhere this boy walks people will speak behind his back. Imagine how he feels and for what a swimsuit issue of SI that was forbidden in the school, but likely not made aware till he got caught.

That is messed up. Sports Illustrated is for sports and usually they don't have porn so I think they should have just taken it away from him.

They definatly overreacted. Like you said it's not like it was porn and it can be sold to people of all ages. Some people are just stupid and over protective for no apparent reason sometimes. It's like they think all morals and human decency fly out the window just because a kid sees some girls in bikinis.
I don't think it was as big a deal to the kid as you make it out to be though. I'm sure he's not scarred for life or anything. Anybody with some common sence should know that just because someone labels you to be something (in this case a pervert) doesn't mean that you should take it to heart and beat yourself up about it.
I remember checking out the naked pictures in National Geographic, and those are much more revealing than anything out of Sports Illistrated.
